High School

At SAIS, secondary students are enrolled in a rigorous American curriculum that both encourages and allows students to reach their full potential. Students learn to become self-reliant adults who are then able to face societal challenges with confidence and function effectively in their future workplaces.

SAIS offers a broad range of school options based on an American curriculum with an international perspective. The school also offers courses in fine arts, foreign languages, economics and computer science. One unique aspect about the secondary curriculum at SAIS is its E-learning program. All students from grades 10 to 12 are equipped with laptops supported by excellent digital resources. Access to the school’s network and the internet is a privilege for educational purposes.

The language of instruction at SAIS Sharjah is English. The core program emphasizes reading, language arts, mathematics, science social studies, Arabic language for native and non-native speakers, and Islamic Education for Muslim students.

Elementary students also receive instruction in health, physical education, computer technology, art and music. Middle and High school students continue their studies in the core areas and choose from a wide variety of electives including computer technology, visual and performing arts and world languages.

Instructional objectives are clearly defined in all subject areas, but academic expectations are flexible enough to both support and challenge each individual learner. Homework is an important part of the educational process as a means of reinforcing and reviewing the daily classroom lessons. Instruction in all areas encourages students to grow as creative thinkers, critical reasons and effective communicators. Technology, with Internet access in classrooms and libraries, is integrated throughout our program.

In addition to the SAIS diploma, students are prepared to take the American SAT examinations (SAT I and SAT II), APs as well as the TOEFL tests. The SAT I requirements are incorporated in Grade 11 Mathematics and English, while SAT II’s are incorporated in the High School Sciences. Our students work closely with the Career Advisor to choose courses, set goals, and prepare themselves well for the university application process.

SAIS recognizes that a great high school experience cannot be rooted solely in academics. For that reason, the school provides students with opportunities to positively impact their community and themselves by participating in inter-school sports tournaments, public speaking competitions, overnight excursions, community-service activities, magazine publishing, annual drama production, environmental awareness projects, and art contests, to name a few.

Beyond academics, SAIS strives to instill in all students a positive attitude toward lifelong learning, an appreciation for cultural diversity, with higher thinking and problem solving skills necessary to be successful in their future endeavors.
